Enumclaw, Wash. -- Just two days after laying their one year old son to rest, Jason and Robin Person share their heartbreak publicly for the first time.
On Monday, Jason Person was pulling his 1-year old son Lincoln on his wagon on Foothills Trail in Buckley, when a truck left a roadway and went through a ditch, hitting and killing the toddler.
"For me the first four or five days, it was like having a hurricane inside me," said Jason Person.
Buckley Police said the driver of the truck was 78-year old John Barnard, who has been questioned by investigators. While they have ruled out alcohol, they are still trying to determine what happened. However, the Persons aren't rushed for answers.
"I think my message is we forgive him," said Jason Person. "It was right there on the spot that I did that. Life is short, and this story proves that and we don't have time for hate and anger."
It's an attitude the Persons believe come from their faith.
"Any peace that we feel we know that's coming from God," said Robin Person.
It also comes from knowing they have to stay strong with their other child, two-week old Ruby.
"She is a blessing," said Robin Person.
