SPOKANE -- Spokane Police released the names of the officers who shot a man in the front yard of a Spokane Valley home Friday.

Police say Spokane Valley officers Aaron Childress and Griffin Criswell both have over 10 years of law enforcement experience.

Officers also released more details surrounding the incident. According to detectives, a friend of David Glidden called 911 on Friday to report that Glidden was suicidal, saying he heard him cock a gun over the phone. Officers Childress and Criswell arrived at the home at 4727 E. 3rd Ave. at 12:37 p.m.

Police report Glidden came out of the house when officers arrived with a gun, and that both officers fired shots.

Glidden was transported to the hospital, where he was recently upgraded to serious but stable condition. Police have not released where on Glidden's body he was shot.

According to detectives, after a search warrant was obtained, police found an "airsoft" replica of a Colt 45 caliber semi-automatic handgun from the front steps of the house.

Oh well. If you if you pull a gun of any kind on Police, or fail to disarm, you risk being shot, end of story.

Have any of you cop haters ever looked at an airsoft replica? They are designed to be realistic, some come with the orange markers but most do not or have been modified. It sounds to me like an attempted suicide by cop...luckily for him and the officers his attempt failed. I feel for the officers that were forced to protect themselves from thr threat, look what just happened in Seattle, could have very easily been locally. Here is a link to a airsoft pistol that I know I would not feel confortable pointed at me, not tell me honestly you would also and would not protect yourself. http://members.shaw.ca/stan420/Pictures/newsmarch/sw-sigma40f.jpg If my link gets deleted do a simple google search for airsoft, you will be amazed!

An airsoft will get you shot by police just as easily as the real thing, as it well should. The officers involved in this acted as they should. Sorry it happened, but good job.

...or, as well it should... either way, I think the guy almost got exactly what he wanted. Hope he gets help.

I think the two officers should be fired from the force and never be able to carry a weapon again they need to be more educated before firing off at random and putting people in harms way....

Shoot first ask questions later. Airsoft pistols are orange in the front. These coppers were trigger happy.

btcaler..um, hello, do you really think that the officers could ask this unstable man to stop for a minute to find out if his gun is real or not.

Now am really confused. Spokane spokes women says at one point that Glidden waved a gun at them so they shot him. Then she claims that they had to use a search warrant to find the hand gun. Glidden dropped straight down with a spinal wound he was laying out side of his house on his porch. Where did the police find his hand gun? Was it in side of the house or out side of the house? Why didn’t the police find the gun near him? Why did it take a search warrant to find one?

Why isn’t anyone but me asking why did the officer on the east side of house jeopardize the lives of my family and his partner by firing his shot gun when they were in direct line of being hit by his shot. I estimate his partner was less then 30ft away. He had to know what and who was directly in front of him. If the officers with the shot gun fires the first round, what is his partner reaction to his weapon discharge? After all the officer on the west side of the house has his gun aimed at Glidden at the same time onl

I hope that all the parents out there, who have bought air-soft guns for their children, heed what happened here. It could well save their child's life.
