WHIDBEY ISLAND, Wash. – They are the ones you don't see. They take care of the kids, the home and work while their enlisted partner is deployed.

But the focus is shifting to the military spouse and their challenges when it comes to finding jobs.

"Military spouses have a unique set of circumstances when job hunting," said Sarah Worley of Hiring our Heroes. an organization created in 2011 to help enlisted men and women when they return to the civilian work force. “Spouses have to move every 2-to-3 years and it can be difficult establishing a career."

Julie Wheeler knows only too well. The military wife now has an established career on Whidbey Island. She now helps other spouses looking for work.

"It's important we find them careers they can grow in and to find them near the base where they live," said Wheeler.

A job fair specifically for military spouses will be held Thursday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the C.P.O. Club, 1080 W. Ault Field Road at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island.

Job contacts, resume writing help, and networking with local companies will be available. It is open to spouses from all military branches.

"So far we've held more than 700 hiring fairs and 23,000 veterans and military spouses have been hired," said Worley.
