SEATTLE -- Drivers crossing the 520 bridge into Seattle were surprised to find themselves sitting in a traffic jam on an early holiday morning. The roadway was clogged with some of the 37,000 people attending a three-day convention of the Jehovah’s Witnesses at Husky Stadium.
It’s one of more than a hundred conventions the organization holds every year, but this is a particularly large gathering. People from four states and 40 countries have come here to study the Bible and learn ways to apply it to modern issues.
The group plans to baptize 5,000 followers during the event. They also reserved more than 5,800 rooms from 59 local hotels and took 128 tours from local operators.
The convention wraps up Sunday afternoon.
