SEATTLE – A chase that involved several police departments has ended in a crash on Interstate 5.
Rebecca Hover with the Snohomish Co. Sheriff's Office says the incident began at about 9:30 a.m. when a Snohomish County Sheriff’s Deputy spotted a stolen car that Mill Creek Police had tried to pull over.
The deputy tried to stop the suspect driving a small black sedan, but the suspect drove off. He ended up on 128th St. SW and then southbound on I-5.
Hover says just south of Northgate he crossed the median and went into the northbound lanes, where he hit a small freight truck.
Witness Frank Price said he was about to pull out of his driveway in Mill Creek and head to work when he saw a black car traveling at a high rate of speed.
"Had to be close to a hundred, then an undercover car behind that, state patrolman and 10 or 12 sheriffs and they just kept coming so I just stayed in the driveway and waited and waited until the last sirens went and headed on my way to work," he said.
Price said as he drove to work he saw all the emergency vehicle lights and stopped to see what had happened.
"Lucky somebody didn't get killed, it looks like," he said.
The suspect, described as being in his early 20s, suffered facial cuts and was taken to a local hospital. Hover said he'll be booked into the Snohomish County Jail for eluding and other possible booking charges.
The driver of the truck was not seriously hurt.
