DUPONT, Wash. -- The truck driver killed in Monday's explosive multi-truck crash on Interstate 5 was starting his long trip home to Ohio for Christmas.

Dale Weaver, 59, was killed when a pickup truck crossed from the northbound lanes near Mounts Road into the southbound lanes.

According to his wife, Weaver was on his way from Washington to deliver a load to California.

After that, he was hoping to make it home to his family in time for Christmas.

Jean Weaver described her husband as loving and hard-working. She said he treated his step-children and step-grandchildren like his own.

Washington State Patrol investigators have not been able to determine what caused the pickup driver to cross over the median.

The driver of that pickup, 61-year-old Kim Heidebrink, is in serious condition at Harborview Medical Center’s intensive care unit and has not been able to speak with investigators.
