A week after she was attacked by pit bulls, a 65-year-old woman has died at a local hospital.
Nga Woodhead passed away Tuesday before she was set to return home, according to her husband.
"We were sitting in a room waiting for the discharge paperwork when her heart just stopped," said Chuck Woodhead.
He believes the injuries from the attack triggered an underlying heart condition.
“The trauma from the dogs is what pushed her over the edge. It’s what caused her heart to fail,” he said.
Nga Woodhead was walking when two pit bulls attacked her less than a mile from her home last week. Several people helped fight off the dogs, which had escaped from a nearby property. The dogs were later shot and killed.
The Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office listed several causes of death including heart attack, injuries to the body, and dog bites.
Woodhead said today would have been their 42nd wedding anniversary. He met his wife while serving in the U.S. Air Force in Vietnam.
“She was the most wonderful loving sweet person in the whole world,” said Woodhead.
The owner of the dogs could face criminal charges.
