Hundreds of people gathered Saturday to celebrate the life of Summer Raffo, who died in the Oso landslide.

She was driving to work the morning the Oso landslide hit. Her brother tirelessly searched for her body. She was found days later and a family, unlike some in this tragedy, could finally find closure.

Summer is the fifth of 13 children. Her infectious smile and love of horses is what friends will remember most.

Summer just got married three years ago and spent her days shoeing horses for a living.

Not only did the community come together to grieve her loss on Saturday, but for weeks they've been raising money for her funeral costs.

Twelve-year-old Kelsey Lee spearheaded the effort. Daily, she's been sitting outside an Arlington convenience store collecting donations.

To date she's raised more than $3500, which will be given to three families for their funerals, including Summer Raffo's.

Summer taught Kelsey everything she knows about horses, and along with her mother Patricia, the two vowed to help these victims.

"When I heard about the mudslide, I was really upset and I wanted to do something and I know they don't take kid volunteers. I had the idea of doing a fundraiser,” Kelsey said.

The 7th grader lost two close friends in the slide and more are still missing.
