A former University of Washington football player has died in an accident in Hawaii.

Willis Wilson drowned off the coast of Honolulu Sunday morning.

The 21-year-old was a running back for the huskies, where he spent three seasons before transferring to the University of Hawaii this year.

Wilson attended Lakes High School in Lakewood. He wore number 20. He was named an all-state running back and offensive player of the year in 2010.

According to a Honolulu Fire Department, Wilson was in shallow water with friends at the beach when he was overcome by a wave around 4:30 a.m. Sunday.
