BAINBRIDGE ISLAND, Wash. – Five people escaped a fire at a home on Bainbridge Island on Sunday morning.

At about 6:15 a.m. firefighters responded to the fire in the vacation home near Country Club Road and Upper Farms Road,.said Bainbridge Island Fire Chief Hank Teran.

“When we arrived we found a large, two-story water bank home well involved with fire,” said Teran.

Five people were able to get out. One person was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment of smoke inhalation.

Teran said investigators are looking for a cause in the main portion of the house.

"The main portion of the house was not occupied at the time of the fire; the occupants were staying in the guest home and in a different wing of the house," he said.

One firefighter suffered a minor burn injury.

Two dozen firefighters responded. The Seattle Fire boat provided an evaluation from the water, said Teran.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. The home is a complete loss.
