A man who neighbors say was trying to break up a fight in an apartment was stabbed and killed Monday morning in Everett.

"He is always trying to do the right thing," said neighbor Andrew Weber.

It happened in an apartment complex in the 8200 block of 5th Avenue West.

Friends of the victim said the man was living in an apartment with another man, believed to be the suspect, and the suspect’s girlfriend. The couple was having an argument. When the victim stepped in to break things up, neighbors say the boyfriend grabbed a knife and started slashing at the victim.

"He is always trying to do the right thing," said neighbor Andrew Weber.

When medics arrived, the girlfriend was performing CPR. The boyfriend had left the scene.

Everett Police and a K-9 team were able to find the suspect a few blocks away. A police spokesperson said all parties are cooperating.

This is the second homicide in three months on the same block off Casino Road in Everett. In February, a woman was found dead in her apartment. Her 16-year-old son was arrested and charged with murder
