TACOMA, Wash. - After spending 29 years working in the classified ads department of a newspaper, Patti Langdon always knew the power of advertising. But even she was blown away by what the ad she purchased just accomplished.
Monday the boy she gave up for adoption 43 years ago showed up on her Tacoma doorstep.
He had seen the ad she put in the Tacoma News Tribune wishing him a happy birthday in April.
"I was speechless," said Langdon.
Langdon said she always regretted giving the boy up for adoption. She said her father made her do it, and she never forgave him.
"It's a great thing," said Langdon's son Todd Smith. "It's a good thing."
Smith ran across the classified ad while searching the Internet for other people born on his birthday at Tacoma General Hospital.
"I was bored," said Smith, who never thought seriously about trying to track down his birth parents.
Langdon said she hopes to be part of her only child's life and family.
"I don't want to let him go again," said Langdon.
"She will be part of our family," said Smith. "She won't be alone."
