A 25-acre brush fire burning just east of Warm Beach, just south of Stanwood, was almost out and was no longer a threat to structures late Thursday evening, said officials.

Earlier in the day, the brush fire burning west of Interstate 5 near 188th NW and 52nd Avenue produced a large plume of white smoke that could be seen several miles away. Flames burned close to one home, which was evacuated as a precaution.

The Snohomish County Sheriff's Office launched their helicopter SnoHawk to drop buckets of water on the fire.

The fire started in a large, empty piece of property north of Lake Goodwin, and had recently been logged.  Slash piles may have led to the fire, officials said, though that was still being investigated.
