A 5-year-old boy who was critically injured in an Auburn crash Sunday died at Harborview Medical Center on Monday morning.

The boy's father identified him as Stacey-Izaac Holmes.

Investigators say the car driven by a 21-year-old Pacific man was traveling 90 mph when it ran off the road around 2:30 a.m. Sunday and hit a tree on Auburn Way South, just east of the Muckleshoot Casino.

Emergency crews had to help free the man and boy after they were trapped in the car.  Authorities say a 9-year-old girl managed to get out without help and was not seriously hurt.

The man, the child's mother's boyfriend, now faces vehicular homicide charges, police say. He remains in intensive care at Harborview. The mother was not in the car.

Police continue to investigate.
