A Bellingham man died Sunday in a weather-related accident.
Trooper Mark Francis said the man was driving up a road south of Bellingham in a Honda Accord, trying to make it up a hill.
He realized he wasn’t going to make it so he decided that rather than leave his car he would back down the hill. The back window of the car was covered in snow so he put his hazard lights on and got out of the car.
A witness behind him asked if the man needed help – he declined. When he was clearing snow from the rear window the car began to slide backward, rolling over the man and into a ditch, trapping the man.
A witness managed to jack up the car, pull the man out and perform CPR. The man was unresponsive.
The man, in his 60s, was confirmed dead at the scene.
