AUBURN, Wash. - Police in Auburn were keeping a watchful eye on a bear cub early Saturday. The cub was in a tree in the 300 block of K Street southeast in Auburn.

Nearby, the mama bear and another cub lay dead after being hit by a van on Highway 18.

Washington State Patrol wildlife officers were able to tranquilize the cub and remove it from the tree. They will take it to a wildlife facility, where it can be cared for and then released back into the wild when it is old enough.

The driver of the minivan was not hurt.
