SEATTLE - An Auburn babysitter is accused of shaking a 9-month-old baby boy in her care.

Police say the 18-year-old babysitter had been caring for the baby and his sibling. The parents of the baby found the babysitter on Craigslist back in February.

"It's been about four months that she has been the babysitter. It's been the regular process of dropping them off in the morning and then getting picked up in the afternoon," said Sgt. Dave Colglazier, Auburn Police Dept.

The parents had dropped the two kids off at the babysitter's home at about 7:30 a.m. on Thursday. At around 9 a.m., she called 911, saying the child had problems breathing.

The boy was rushed to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle and then on to Seattle Children's Hospital.

Police say the babysitter later told them what happened.

"She came down to the station and in that interview gave some indications to the detectives that were consistent with what the doctors were seeing was a possible assault situation," said Colglazier.

The baby is in critical condtion.

The babysitter's mother said her daughter is innocent.

"She will not hurt a hair on anybody's head, period," she said. "She's a good kid."

The babysitter is being held on $150,000 bail on charges of first degree assault of a child. Formal charges are expected next week. The teen's two-year-old child was taken by CPS at the time of her arrest.
