BURIEN, Wash. -- Fire investigators continue to comb through surveillance video outside the Burien Annex, searching for clues about who set fire to the building early Tuesday morning.
The fire originated in a portable bathroom adjacent to the auditorium which is used for community theater.
“Wow. It’s definitely worse than I thought,” said Kaitlin Reagin. “This is our rehearsal space, our performance space. This is everything.”
Reagin, 14, is part of the Hi-Liners Musical Theater group. She and about 50 other kids planned for opening night in the theater next month.
Seeing the ash for the first time after school on Tuesday, she cried.
“Oh, why would someone do that," she said. “Especially because, when you’re here enough, it becomes like a second home.”
Detectives have yet to identify a suspect or motive, but they're asking the community for tips.
“That’s a nasty feeling that someone would take a community asset like this and deliberately torch it,” said Hi-Liners Board of Directors President Gerry Gilbert.
The damage is estimated at $150,000.
Anyone with information should call 1-800-55-TIPS.
