An engine fire on board the Victoria Clipper caused the ship to divert from its course Friday evening.

About 156 passengers were on board when the fire broke out near Seattle. A Seattle Fire Department spokesman said a chemical suppresant was used to contain the fire in the engine compartment and all the passengers got off safely at Ballard's Shilshole Marina.

Charter buses were transporting the passengers to the Victoria Clipper dock. No one was injured.

So far, no official word on what caused the fire.
