The Seattle Police Department released a video Thursday, shot 27 years ago, showing interim police chief Jim Pugel playing a homeless person and drinking in a police training video.

Pugel was set to hold a press conference on the video Thursday night.

The video was called "Under the Viaduct," a parody of the song "Under the Boardwalk." The video begins with a notation:

“The following video was produced in 1986. The skit was created in a misguided attempt at humor and added to the end of a training video. Upon viewing it, commanders judged the content to be inappropriate. Copies were ordered to be destroyed.

A police spokesperson said the video showed Pugel "poking fun at the homeless.” Pugel acknowledges it was an “unflattering” role.

Pugel was named interim chief after Chief John Diaz announced his retirement earlier this month
