COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho -- A cash reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of copper wire thieves in Kootenai County.
Copper control wire from area irrigation pivot lines has been stolen 14 times since October. The suspect or suspects have made off with 9,000 feet of wire from the various victims, primarily Prairie Field Growers. It’s estimated to be a $28,000 loss.
The sheriff’s office has not yet identified any suspects.
Recyclers and scrap vendors should be aware of the problem. Anyone who knowingly receives stolen property would be considered guilty of theft themselves, under Idaho law.
Crime Stoppers of the Inland Northwest is offering a cash reward for any viable tips. Anyone with information can call 1-800-222-TIPS.
