SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. -- An attempted burglar was interrupted by a surprsing guest at a Spokane Valley home.

Police responded to a burglary call around 10:45 a.m. Friday at a home in the 12400 block of East Desmet Road.

The homeowners, their son and daughter-in-law arrived home to find their front door open and their pets outside.

The homeowners’ son, a U.S. marine, went in the house to find 43-year-old Christopher Schwanke, according to police. Deputies say 22-year-old U.S. Marine Infantryman Alex Pohle pinned down the suspect with his father until they arrived.

Schwanke allegedly scattered jewelry around Pohle’s parents’ bedroom, but did not make away with any property during his burglary attempt.

Schwanke was booked into Spokane Co. Jail for residential burglary. Police say his criminal history dates back 27 years.
