A 17-year-old girl was airlifted Wednesday after being hit by a truck in front of a Bremerton school.

It happened around 7:20 a.m. in front of Fairview Junior High.

The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office said the victim, who attends Olympic High School, was walking her younger brother to Fairview when she was struck in the crosswalk of the two lane road.

Witnesses said the school zone lights were flashing in the 20 mph zone. They heard a scream and then screeching tires on the wet pavement.

The victim was taken to Harrison Medical Center and then airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with serious and possibly critical injuries.

The driver of the truck stopped at the scene. Details about the accident have not been released.
