MOUNT RAINIER, Wash. -- A 23-year-old man has died after his car rolled down an embankment in a remote wooded area near Mount Rainier, said a Pierce County sheriff's spokesman.
The accident happened Wednesday night in the 38900 block of SR 165 near the town of Carbonado. Pierce County officials said two men in their early 20s rolled their vehicle over a cliff, causing the vehicle to roll over about 25 times down the hill.
One of the men managed to crawl out of the vehicle, but his friend was unresponsive. The man hiked up the cliff through the night until he reached the town of Carbonado and contacted emergency officials.
Ground and air crews searched the area and located the vehicle. They found the second man deceased a short distance away from the vehicle.
Officials identified him as a 23-year-old man from Auburn. The condition of the other man is not known.
