Seattle-based rapper Macklemore is topping the charts nationally. On Tuesday his new album "The Heist" - made with producer Ryan Lewis - reached No. 1 on iTunes.
Macklemore, whose real name is Ben Haggerty, Tweeted his excitement about the news, saying WE F****** DID IT!!!!!! #1 album in the US on ITUNES!!!!! INDEPENDENT!!!!! I LOVE YOU BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE!!!!!
Just last week, Macklemore was in the news for his song with Ryan Lewis called "Same Love," which supports marriage equality. The accompanying video, which tells the story of a gay couple, sparked a flurry of interest online and as of Tuesday had nearly 3 million views on YouTube.
On Tuesday, Macklemore and Lewis scaled the side of Seattle's Easy Street records for a live perofrmance to celebrate the album's release and the YouTube video.
