The race between Washington gubernatorial candidates Rob McKenna and Jay Inslee has narrowed considerably, according to a new poll.
The Seattle Times reports Elway Research contacted 408 voters across the state last week and found 42 percent favor McKenna, a Republican, while 40 percent favor Inslee, a Democrat. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 5 percent.
A similar poll conducted in February found that McKenna had a nine point lead.
Pollster Stuart Elway suggests that since Washington tends to lean Democrat, Inslee will gain ground on McKenna as people recognize he is the Democratic candidate.
McKenna is Washington state's Attorney General. Jay Inslee stepped down earlier this year as U.S. Representative from Washington's 1st District.
