SEATTLE – A new website and smartphone app can let you know where to evacuate if a tsunami is bearing down on the Washington or Oregon coasts.

The Tsunami Evacuation NW online portal and app lets you know if your home or school is located in a tsunami danger zone.

The “places” feature can assist you in finding assembly areas, police and fire departments and hospitals. You can also see if any of them are in the danger zone or in an evacuation area.

Tuesday's introduction of the app was timely. It sent out an alert about the 7.6 magnitude earthquake in Mexico and that there was no tsunami danger for the Washington or Oregon coasts associated with it.

The map was developed by the Northwest Association of Networked Ocean Observing Systems (NANOOS).

You can find it online at: http://nvs.nanoos.org/tsunami

It’s also available for download on the iPhone and on Android phones.
