There's a new way to protect your children from cyber bullying.
Social Shield is a new "cloud" service for parents. It constantly monitors conversations on Facebook, alerting parents what their kids are doing online. It also sends alerts when there's suspicious activity, such as strangers wanting to be "friends.” It even cross references with sex offender databases.
Kathy Gill, a professor at the University of Washington, said the service cannot replace talking to your children.
“I'm not going to sit and tell you not to monitor but I think of monitoring as a last ditch and not pro-active,” said Gill.
The Social Shield application for Facebook costs $10 a month.
