A brush fire was burning Saturday in Glenoma, a small town near Morton in Lewis County.
The Dog Mountain Fire covered about 10 acres on Saturday afternoon and was burning in steep terrain in a recently logged area.
The Department of Natural Resources, Port Blakely Timber Co. and Lewis County Fire Districts were on the scene.
DNR says bulldozers, fire engines, and a water-dropping helicopter were working to extinguish the fire that was being fanned and spread by dry east winds. Steep terrain increased the challenge of reaching pockets of burning material.
DNR says as night fell Saturday, the wind died down and the humidity rose so in many places the fire went out.
The cause of the fire is under investigation
