EVERETT, Wash. – A Washington State Patrol car caught fire Friday morning, causing a traffic backup on what was otherwise a light commute.
It happened at about 9:50 a.m. on northbound Interstate 5 at State Route 526.
WSP says the fire started in the trunk. The heat caused the spare tire to pop and the road flares that were in the trunk ignited.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
The car is a total loss. The trooper is OK.
