Giants beat goliaths to win first title by the Bay

On Independence Day, the San Francisco Giants trailed the San Diego Padres by 7 1/2 games in the NL West. Even if they did make it to the playoffs, they weren't supposed to stand a chance against the mighty Philadelphia Phillies. But this team, seemingly free of the egos of its recent past, went on an amazing stretch run to win their division. After dispatching the Braves in 4 games and the Phillies in 6, the Giants shut down arguably the best pitcher in the game today, Cliff Lee, twice. The second time was Game 5 of the World Series as the Giants beat the Texas Rangers 3-1 on Nov. 1, 2010 to take their first title since moving to the City by the Bay.
