TUMWATER, Wash. – A semi-truck driver was killed Thursday morning in a fiery crash after rear-ending an SUV on Interstate 5.
It happened just before 9 a.m. in the northbound lanes near 93rd Avenue in Tumwater. The Washington State Patrol says the semi rear-ended a Honda SUV. The Honda was forced off the road and hit a light pole.
The semi went off the road and hit several trees, causing the cab to catch fire. The driver died at the scene.
The two people in the SUV were not badly hurt.
The Washington State Patrol did not immediately say what led to the semi rear-ending the SUV.
One lane of northbound I-5 was closed for several hours for the investigation and so that WSDOT could remove a 100-foot fir tree that was damaged.
