SEATTLE - High winds knocked out power in several areas of Western Washington and forced the closure of the Hood Canal Bridge on Tuesday afternoon.

There were dozens of reports of trees down. The 45 mph gusts blasted one Edmonds neighborhood. Several trees snapped and came crashing down on a home.

"When the wind was really getting bad we just heard a huge crash that shook the entire house," said resident Doug Walker.

"It just happened, there was no creaking, it just snapped at once," said witness Neil Sylvia.

Power was also knocked out in most parts of downtown Edmonds. Many businesses were forced to close.

The Department of Transportation closed the Hood Canal Bridge at about 1:30 p.m. and reopened it at about 3:30 p.m.

Power lines and trees were down across Kitsap County and power outages were reported on Bainbridge Island, Poulsbo, Hansville, and in Bremerton.

Seattle City Light also reported power outages in Shoreline, Lake Forest Park and Georgetown.

In Snohomish County, about 11,000 customers were without power, mainly in Lynnwood and Edmonds.

A high wind advisory was in effect for the greater Seattle area until 6 p.m. Tuesday, with southwest winds of 20-30 and gusts to 45 mph.
