KENMORE, Wash. – One person was killed in a head-on collision Tuesday morning, all but shutting down one of the routes drivers use to avoid the State Route 520 floating bridge.

It happened around 7 a.m. in the 6500 block of State Route 522, also known as NE Bothell Way.

The King County Sheriff’s Office said one vehicle was traveling eastbound when it crossed the median into the westbound lanes and hit another vehicle head-on.

One person was killed and another has serious injuries. The sheriff’s office did not say which vehicle was carrying the person who was killed.

All westbound lanes were shut down for the investigation and only one eastbound lane was open.

SR 522 is one of the alternate routes of choice for drivers who want to avoid the tolls on the SR 520 bridge.
