Sign warns of armed staff members at Texas schools

School district touts gun-toting teachers

MEDINA, Texas -- A new Medina school district sign warning that staff members "may be armed" is drawing attention in the community.

A resident sent KENS 5 a photo of the sign. It reads as follows:

“Attention. Please be aware that the staff at Medina ISD may be armed and will use whatever force is necessary to protect our students."

Medina Independent School District superintendent Penny White told KENS 5 Friday the sign was installed this week in hopes that it might make anyone “think twice” who may be considering doing anything to harm the students.

White said she hopes the sign lets the public know that student safety is the school district's number one priority, and so far, the public’s response has been overwhelmingly positive.

“I have not had one negative comment,” she said.

A photo of the sign also posted on the Bandera Bulletin's Facebook page has been shared more than 1,300 times so far and has received more than 250 comments.
