MEDINA, Texas -- A new school district sign warning that staff members "may be armed" is drawing attention in a small Texas community.
The sign, which was installed at schools in the Medina Independent School District, reads as follows:
“Attention. Please be aware that the staff at Medina ISD may be armed and will use whatever force is necessary to protect our students."
Penny White, the superintendent of the school district, said Friday that the sign was installed this week in hopes it might make anyone “think twice” who may be considering doing anything to harm the students.
White said she hopes the sign lets the public know that student safety is the school district's top priority, and so far, the public’s response has been overwhelmingly positive.
“I have not had one negative comment,” she said.
A photo of the sign also posted on the Bandera Bulletin's Facebook page has been shared more than 1,300 times so far and has received more than 250 comments.
