SEATTLE - Northwest rivers are bulging with salmon. A sudden, unexpected influx of salmon has anglers lining up, shoulder to shoulder.

Fishing store manager Jerome Jefferson heard about the Duwamish run and ventured from his home turf in Fall City to introduce a young friend to the joys of fishing.

"This is supposedly the best run of salmon coming through in 70 years I would say," he said.

Salmon that have been schooling up at the mouths of several rivers got the rain they were waiting for this weekend and started running. But just because there's a lot of fish and a lot of fishermen, it doesn't necessarily mean there's a lot of catching.

"It's terrible. You'd have better luck at QFC," said one fisherman.

That's the thing about fishing, the higher the hopes the deeper the depression when the fish won't bite. It's especially when the true fishing masters are putting on a clinic right in front.

"The seals, they're having the best luck," said another man.

But as long as a few fish are coming out, so will the anglers.
