SEATTLE - A Buddhist temple in the International District will hold a hope and memorial service Sunday for victims of the earthquake and tsunami.

Choiezan Enkyoji Temple serves many Seattleites of Japanese heritage.

Temple leaders have been praying for victims as well as trying to help people here connect with family and friends in Japan.

Reverend Kanjin Cederman says he has been unsuccessful in finding relatives in the Iwate Prefecture.

"Even though we are not in Japan at the time, I feel that all people around the world are feeling the effects of the earthquake and suffering and fear of the tsunami," he said.

The prayer service starts Sunday at 10:30 a.m. at the temple at 5th and Jackson. It will be open to the public.
