STAR, Idaho -- Plenty of voters in Star said 'no' to buying a golf course.
Only 316 people voted in favor of it, while 725 voted against the $6 million bond measure.
That money would have allowed the city to buy the River Birch Golf Course and build a new community pool.
Homeowners would have paid $56 a year for each $100,000 of their assessed property value.
"It was an opportunity we had, we knew the timing wasn't very great. We're all struggling to make ends meet. I don't know if there's ever a good time to ask people to raise their own taxes, but I 100 percent respect the decision of the voters," says Star Mayor Nate Mitchell.
Mitchell says they'll go back to work and keep looking for opportunities to improve the quality of life for the people in Star.
