SEATTLE – Just a week until Election Day, undecided voters are starting to swing the races.
A new KING 5 News poll shows that, if the votes were counted today, Referendum 71 – the measure to expand benefits for same sex partners - would pass by a close margin. Half of the 561 likely and actual voters polled by SurveyUSA say they would vote yes while 43 percent say they would vote no. Seven percent remain undecided.
The margin for Initiative 1033, which would tie government revenue increases to the rate of inflation, is not as tight. Fifty percent of those polled say they are planning or have already voted no, while 38 percent are voting yes. Twelve percent still are not sure.
Seattle Mayor and King Co. Executive
Meanwhile, the University of Washington has released two new polls in the races for Seattle Mayor and King County Executive. The polls show Joe Mallahan comfortably leading Mike McGinn for mayor, 44 percent to 36 percent.
But, in the race for executive, the UW poll has Dow Constantine well ahead of Susan Hutchison, 47 percent to 34 percent. That's a dramatic reversal from the last KING 5 poll a couple of weeks ago in which Hutchison led Constantine by 5 percent.
Votes will be counted Nov. 3.
