OLYMPIA, Wash. - The state Legislature has approved a plan to expand the way tolls can be spent on the State Route 520 replacement project.
On a 37-10 vote Monday, the Senate concurred with changes made in the House. The measure now goes to Gov. Chris Gregoire.
Originally, tolls collected for the 520 project were only supposed to be spent on the main bridge itself. But the bill was modified in the House to allow tolls to pay for additional projects that are considered part of the overall 520 replacement.
The measure also limits the bridge's height to 20 feet.
