SEATTLE - If Dino Rossi gets into the 2010 Senate campaign, he can expect a mudslinging doozy. And the Democrats are making sure he knows it.
The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee in D.C. has put up a website called "Dirty Deals Dino for Senate," painting the Republican non-challenger to Patty Murray as a shady businessman with shady business partners and shady business deals in his past.
There's even @DirtyDealsDino for Twitter fans, dispensing tweets sent out by a snarky, selfish, corrupt Dino Parody.
"There isn't much they can say about me or do to me they haven't done before," Rossi told me this afternoon. "It's just sad that our Senator has gone to this level. Already. I'm not even in the race."
Dwight Pelz, Chair of the State Democratic Party, says Rossi is fair game, that he's been testing the waters and should understand what kind of race it's going to be if he gets in.
"Dino Rossi is flying back and forth to Washington, D.C., he's meeting with John Cornyn, he's meeting with Mitch McConnell and he's making public statements that he may or may not be a candidate."
Pelz admits Rossi is the strongest candidate mentioned so far and calls the other members of the GOP field "The seven dwarfs."
