In the race for the 26th District, which has become the most expensive legislative contest in state history with a combined spending of $2.9 million, Republican Jan Angel was leading opponent Democrat Nathan Schlicher 51 percent to 48 percent.

Republicans hope to add another seat Tuesday to their coalition that controls the Washington state Senate to help increase the cushion of their hold of the upper chamber.

According to State Public Commission Disclosure, millions has flowed into the race from local, state and out-of-state donors to impact the control of the state Senate. Republicans currently hold a slight 25-24 majority. If Schlicher is successful, the balance of power won’t change this year but it could make things easier for Democrats to retake the Senate in 2014.
