ATHENS, Mich. (AP) — Voters in the Battle Creek area have elected a high school student to the board of education.
The Battle Creek Enquirer (http://bcene.ws/PYgKpN ) reports that 18-year-old Eric McClure won elections to the Athens school board Tuesday with 1,183 votes. Incumbent Dan Loew also won a spot with 1,000 votes, while incumbent Kendra Falk missed the cut with 825 votes.
McClure says he "expected it to be a little bit closer than it was" and says he's "surprised by the vote but very, very happy."
Loew says he has no concerns about serving with a student. McClure is a senior at Athens High School.
School board terms begin Jan. 1, and trustees serve four-year terms.
