VANCOUVER -- A 45-year-old man running across a Vancouver street was struck by a car and killed Wednesday night, police said.

James Joseph Grubb, of Vancouver, was not in a crosswalk or near an intersection when he was struck on Highway 99, south of Northeast 78th Street, said Sgt. Fred Nieman of the Clark County Sheriff's Office.

Grubb was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died from his injuries, police said.

The driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene to talk with investigators. CCSO Sgt. Duncan Hoss said impairment and speed were not factors in the crash.

Hoss said Grubb was headed across the street for coffee when he was hit.
