VANCOUVER -- A two-alarm fire reported early Friday morning destroyed a 91-unit, four-story apartment complex under construction in Vancouver.
The fire was reported around 3:20 a.m. when a neighbor heard what sounded like a loud explosion. Firefighters responded and quickly upgraded the blaze to two alarms.
The flames quickly spread through a roof, covering exposed framing at Southeast Mill Plain Boulevard and Tech Center Drive.
Neighbor Jenavieve Winn told KGW the fire was "huge" and the flames caught nearby trees on fire. No other buildings were damaged.
Forty firefighters responded to knock down the flames.
No injuries were reported. Investigators expected to stay at the scene for most of the day Friday.
Vancouver Fire Marshall Heidi Scarpelli did not call the fire suspicious, but said it was "unusual."
The complex had been scheduled to open in February, but is now considered a total loss, fire officials said.
