PORTLAND -- Some Portland students walked out of class Friday in support of teachers.

Students at Wilson High School were holding a rally outside the school. More than 100 students at Jefferson High School also walked out at 12:15 p.m. The students went onto North Killingsworth Street, and blocked a lane of traffic for around 30 minutes before returning to calss.

The walkouts comes amid contract negotiations between the Portland Association of Teachers and school district.

Some consensus was reached in earlier negotiations on workload and health insurance, but now the sticking point is salary.

According to KGW’s news partner The Oregonian, the teacher's union expects to send its latest proposal to the district by sometime Saturday.

The union is also reportedly offering to meet for direct negotiations over the weekend.
