PORTLAND – The Hawthorne Bridge is closed Sunday from 6 a.m. until as late as 7 p.m. for an inspection.
The bridge will be raised for much of the day so drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists will be forced to take an alternated route across the river.
TriMet bus routes 4, 6, 14, and 33 are detoured across the Morison Bridge.
Inspectors from Multnomah County will be evaluating critical weight-bearing parts of the bridge towers.
The Hawthorne Bridge opened in 1919 and is the oldest working vertical lift bridge in the county.
