BEND, Ore. -- The Deschutes National Forest is using a helicopter this week to deliver mulch to about 100 acres that officials are trying to restore after a fire last year near Sisters.

Soil scientist Terry Craigg told KTVZ the fire burned off a protective layer and exposed soil.

A helicopter can deliver about 1 ton of wood chips at a time.
