CORNELIUS, Ore. – A two-story log-cabin-style home went up in flames Saturday evening in Cornelius.
The fire broke out around 6 p.m. in the 5400 block of Southwest Herger Road. Responding firefighters were beaten back by the flames and had to call more crews to the scene as the fire intensified, said Matt Johnston with the Cornelius Fire Department.
Just before 7 p.m. additional crews showed up, and after over an hour of battling the flames, firefighters were able to hose down the majority of the flames, Johnston said.
Close to 20 people were living or visiting the home when the fire broke out, but because of previous incidents with residents becoming upset with emergency responders, firefighters did not enter the property until sheriffs deputies arrived, Johnston said.
The fire damaged most of the home and investigators think the home may be a total loss.
No one was injured in the fire.
Investigators were working to determine the cause of the fire.
